Thanks to the folks up in Warren County for sponsoring a candidate’s forum last night in McMinnville. There was a good crowd of about 40 in attendance.
We discussed a number of issues including illegal immigration and job growth in Warren county.
One of the more interesting questions last night was, “How can a Republican win the 14th district?” There is no doubt that the 14th district is a difficult district. But it is a swing district. Republican candidates have won in this district in the past and will win again in the future.
The key to the winning this race is to present a clear choice for our voters. The 14th district is a conservative rural district. I believe that by November, I will be able to show our voters that they have a clear choice between a conservative who shares their beliefs and an incumbent who does not.
Stay tuned…

It was my pleasure today to be a guest on a new local political radio show. Nathan Cunningham is hosting ”Political Viewpoints” weekly on WMSR, 1320 am. This was his second show and I really appreciate him having me as a guest.
Nathan is a Democrat but expressed to me his desire to keep the show fair. He was true to his word and we had a good discussion of various issues, including many of the issues on my issues page.
One area we had strong disagreement on was the 2nd Amendment. Nathan tried to use the recent college shootings as evidence of the need for gun restrictions in public places. I pointed out the obvious. Guns were banned on campus and yet the shootings happened anyway.
Frankly, I don’t believe we will ever eliminate these sort of events. The shooter has been identified as a person with a mental disorder. By definition, crazy people act crazy. The best we can hope for is to be able to defend ourselves when the worst happens.
That is why I supported the recent bill in the Senate to allow carry permit holders to carry weapons in locations that serve alcohol provided they are not drinking alcohol. This allows for responsible law abiding citizens to defend themselves if need be.
Obviously there needs to be careful consideration before allowing just anyone to carry weapons on a college campus. But universities and governments have a responsibility to either protect or allow individuals to defend themselves, even on campus. Because we know for a fact, based on current events, that those willing to commit murder are certainly willing to violate gun bans.
I would love to hear you thoughts on this issue, Email me.

Those who have blogged in the past know as I do the challenge of the first post. The blank screen can be very intimidating as you seek to introduce your readers to the idea of your blog and what you intend to accomplish.
For a campaign blog such as this the intention is clear. This is a place to read about my campaign and what I have to say about the race and the issues facing our state. I hope I can provide you an ongoing discussion that will help you get to know me better.
I invite you to check in regularly for the latest news & campaign updates. If you use a feed reader you can subscribe using the links at the lower right.
Thanks for reading my first post. I look forward to talking with you thoughout the year.
